Teen Open Studio: Big Feelings, Small Art
Creativity and Self-Discovery Teen Open Studio offers a unique blend of art exploration and self-discovery in a relaxed, supportive environment for teens 13-17 years. Led by a licensed professional counselor and registered art therapist, these sessions provide therapeutic benefits to participants as they express themselves through creativity, build skills of objective observation, mindfulness, and self-regulation.
What to Expect:
· Weekly Themes: Each session revolves around a specific theme while allowing participants to explore their individual needs within a group setting. This week’s theme is Big Feelings, Small Art, where we use the art form of playing card collage to create a series of emotions cards, understanding the essential features of the emotions that impact us the most.
· Guided Process: The facilitator provides verbal instructions, modeling, and material guidance, helping participants tap into their intuition and creativity.
· Outcomes:
· Identify important thoughts, feelings, and patterns, bringing the unconscious to conscious awareness.
· Process life experiences and emotions.
· Discover joy in the creative process.
· Develop self-trust and the ability to take safe risks.
Important Note:
· While highly therapeutic, Teen Open Studio is not formal therapy. It caters to the general developmental needs of teens and will not involve group verbal processing.
· No prior art or therapy knowledge is required.
· All necessary tools and basic art materials are provided during sessions.
· Participants are welcome to bring their own materials if they have specific preferences or projects in mind.
· Participants must be able to conduct themselves safely and independently in a group setting.
